Entry #5 : Yeah! Online Quiz for Revision using Quizalize

Cikgu Aima come back to share in #iniblogcikguaima with you guys next application that I had used in order to implement 21st century environment in my classroom.

So, I had explored new tool to assess my students. Dr. Farhah had asked us to follow this

I had found Quizalize!

*but, no Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM) in the choices of Curriculum.

(-_-) maybe not been use yet by teacher or educator in Malaysia. Hopefully soon.

What is Quizalize?

is an online platform for classroom polling and assessing that can be accessed by computer, tablet, or mobile phone.

You can create quizzes to test students’ knowledge in the classroom, then see the results propagated in the Teacher Dashboard through data reports.

What the interesting features using Quizalize?

1. Kid-friendly and colorful interface that is easy to use and intuitive.

My students felt so happy, wonderful and excited to answer the quiz. They looked like more focus and interested to learn my "dry" subject that difficult to visualize.

2. Creating quizzes features, you can go beyond the typical question-and-answer options; they can also pick from different lengths of time for students to respond, add explanations, and categorize questions within a quiz under specific subtopics. It is also possible to add images and equations to the questions, making it easy to incorporate Quizalize in any classroom subject.

3. Just like Quizizz, Quizalize also help me assess my student easily!

More easy to find out which is the student need my help, which question he/she need help with colorful interface. You can compare Quizizz and Quizalize.

Of course, there were impeded issues as to use technology in classroom. Actually, I brought them to IMac Computer Lab in our Library. But, the Internet connection during my lesson in weak status. Therefore, some of my students could not join by using computers. Luckily, they got IPad to join the activity.

Moreover, I tried to using Padlet in the computer lab, but cannot open it. This due to the not supported browser (Safari). Pop-up message request to use latest versions of Chrome or Firefox instead. Lack of technical supports for the IT staff and computer equipment in computer lab will jeopardize me as teacher to implementing 21st Century environment.

Gen Z, they love competitions among them. Thus, using technology will feed their needs.

One characters in transforming learning with 21st Century environments are from step-by-step learning following teacher directions to spiral and flexible learning based on combination of teacher directions and student interest - two ways communications in creative way.

Our KSSM focused on Inquiry Based Learning (Student Involvement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration and Assessment). Inquiry Based Learning means learning based on student centered that involved questioning and curiosity. This based learning is encouraging investigation, exploration and discovery to gather information plus deeper understanding.

Stay tune! Cikgu Aima will share more soon about Seesaw. Merely the same function like Padlet.

By the way, actually, many apps / tools provide by Google.

Entry #4 : Online Assessment using Quizizz with Form 5

Hi, Assalamualaikum wbt and Salam Sejahtera, as I promised in my last post - Entry #3 : My Lesson using Padlet with Form 4 students, I also shared what did I got from Dr. Farhah to my clique,Teacher Wan Zuraifah. She is teaching Chemistry. I also already made Padlet to my Form 5 students.

Now, I will hare my next journey in implementing 21st century environment using digital technology in the classroom in MRSM Pengkalan Chepa. #iniblogcikguaima

Lets' knowing Quizizz better?

Quizizz is a free, self-paced learning tool that helps every student celebrate their achievements. Teachers incorporate Quizizz into instruction, review, and assessment to support students.

How to start play game with your student?

1. You may search in the public library or You can create your own question.

2. You can conduct it in class with our live mode or assign it as a homework game for students to practice on their own time. Students can use any device with a browser to join the game and you see data for individual students and the class as a whole.

For me, I would prefer to create my own questions to test in the Quizizz. This will let me focus on the topic and subtopic to my subject matter expert. Of course, this decision will need to consume time to create the questions but yet at last it will help me a lot. This is one of the barriers to use technology in classroom.

I also conducted live mode game with my students when I was not around in the school because attending a meeting in Kepala Batas by sharing the game code via Padlet and started the game once all the students joined the game.

What is the interesting features using Quizizz?

1. Colourful, Music and got Timing Meter during the game

2. Full of animation

3. Can be involve up to 5000 players in one time

4. Result can be download and share with parents

Here the screen result once, the students completed answers the quiz. As teacher, I can review and assess my students' performances. This reports give me a clear view of overall class performance as well as a breakdown for each student.

Quizizz also provide us game highlights such as Class Accuracy, Toughest Question, Longest Question and Interesting fact. Thus, I can drilling more on the toughest question and explaining it deeply. This will help us focus on the topic or subtopic related.

All of my students were enjoyed and excited, not only using traditional way in classroom. Pencils and books was still relevant to be use in lesson but technology ease the learning process. In addition, this game can also be conduct by group. Moveover, I had mixed up the members in the group. Yes, this will brush up leadership skills among the students and also teamwork spirits. They had communicated and competed to each other in healthy environment.

One characters in transforming learning with 21st Century environments that been applied in Quizizz are from emphasizing on individual accomplishments to emphasizing on collaborative group accomplishments.

Entry #3 : My Lesson using Padlet with Form 4 students

Hi, Assalamualaikaum wbt and Salam Sejahtera.

Here my 1st step in the journey in implementing 21st century environment using digital technology in the classroom in MRSM Pengkalan Chepa. #iniblogcikguaima

During my class in ESEG5033 Technology In Education, Dr. Farhah had introduced to us Padlet as the medium to ease her lesson with us. I felt very excited to share to my students in MRSM Pengkalan Chepa. As an Educator, of course, I have to upgrading my knowledge and explore what is technology tools help to capture my students' interest and stay focus in the class.

YES, EXCITED and IMPRESSED.

This is because these generation are digital natives. Digital natives were children and adults who have grown up using computers/laptops/IPads and other electronic media. All my students are members of Generation Z have used digital technology since their birth and are comfortable with the Internet and social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and etc. (Wikipedia)

Previously, I only using my Microsoft Surface and prepared Slides using Microsoft Powerpoint. Its sound very old fashion and out-dated, right? (^_^) #iniblogcikguaima

Lets' knowing Padlet better!

What is Padlet?

Padlet is a great place for gathering ideas, sharing them and modifying them later. A link to a Padlet can be shared and Padlets can be embedded into webpages. It’s like a living, breathing webpage. You can add links, YouTube videos, files and images to Padlet notes.

I used it!

They can move and arrange them. It is an application to create an online bulletin board that you can use to display information for any topic. You can open Padlet using your smartphone!

How to do you made Padlet?

Instructions:

Step 1: Go to padlet.com and create an account.

Step 2: Create a new Padlet wall by clicking on Create New Padlet.

Step 3: Start working on your Padlet wall by clicking Modify This Wall.

Step 4: Change the Wallpaper and Layout on the Modify This Wall page.

They also very excited to explore Padlet once I had introduced to them.

What I do with my Padlet?

1. Share notes, excises and audio

2. Request they to upload video

3. Share link for online quiz

4. Communicate with them if there any queries

In my school, our principal is currently encouraging 21st century environment. He asked students and teachers using IPad in the classroom. In addition, the management also brought 20 units of IPad that can be lend by the teachers and students. Moveover, our school management already subscribing TM Unifi as to implement 21st century environment.

Here I attached the respond I got from one of my students' parent and three of my students. His parent is a digital immigrant which the newcomer to the world of computers and other information technologies.

By the way, I'm 90s babies which also a digital natives.

One characters in transforming learning with 21st Century environments that been applied in Padlet are from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning. But, they still need teachers to learn. My students will follow and copy and some of them improve their understanding via looks at their friends' post in Padlet. They want to do better.
